April 29 - I'm still sick but I push on. Today is supposed to be the nicest weather day. Maybe it's being sick, maybe it's this place but we are starting so much later than in Bordeaux. It's after 11 by the time we get out.
We walk to a church.
Nuns are singing in front.
Hotel de ville
It's past noon and I'm starving. Let's move away from the hotel de ville/old town away from the tourist area. We start to walk around the bay towards the funicular and there isn't much open. Well I guess it's a stop at a tourist trap along the beach.
Nothing like starting the day with sangria.
Sandwich for me.
Omelette for Aparna.
We spend an hour and half relaxing in the sun.
It's another 20 minutes or so to the funicular. It takes us up to top and some amusement park. It's mostly closed and there is also a hotel up here.
The views of the bay and the town are really nice. It's a good clear weather day thing to do.
One ride is open.
Part of the roller coaster track.
We head down and walk across the beach. Aparna is amazed by the topless sunbathers especially the ones she called shriveled up. Sorry no pictures.
I think this is where we had lunch.
We go another pintxo place but it's not our vibe. Plus their kitchen is closed so only what they have on the bar.
I'm not sure why Aparna gets the anchovie. She doesn't like them. We end up switching.
We find another place around the corner.
Their kitchen is open so Aparna gets her foie gras.
We walk up to the castle. Apparently we took the long way up. Again we get some good views from up here.
We find a much faster way down. We head back to our part of town. After our invitation for meatballs last night we decide to get a bottle of wine. We head back to the wine shop. Plus Aparna wants to try the cockles. The owner recognizes us from yesterday.
These are good.
I don't see the sardines from yesterday so I go with the smoked herring. It's really good. During this time we meet a guy from Edmonton. He's curious how we found this place because it's not a tourist place. He apparently does business there. He also has a guy from Seattle in his group.
The place is filling up with locals. We get a bottle of wine for the meatballs and head out. We also pick up some desserts.
It turns out our meatball dinner is tomorrow and not tonight. We are tired and not really hungry so we retire for the night.
